Pepper was first identified in 1976.

Like people, most humpbacks are right ‘handed’ but not Pepper!

And that’s not the only trait that makes her stand out from the crowd.

She’s also kept two of her calves with her for over two years.

PEPPER

Reflection was named for her symmetrical fluke pattern.

But it is her feeding ballet that makes her recognisable from a distance – she catches fish with her face out of the water and a big splash of her tail.

REFLECTION

Salt is probably the most famous humpback whale in the world and certainly the most distinguished and photographed.

She was first identified in 1975 and is a grandmother and mother to many calves.

Midnight is a small female humpback, but don’t let her petite stature fool you.

She’s a very determined whale.

While she is often seen alone, she has also been a doting mother to her calves.
